Important Notes Guests must be in good health and physical condition. This tour involves a 2 hours walk that crosses a river, and the climbing of ladders. The takigyo is very physical in itself.

08:30Gathering at Mt. Yudono's parking lot (Yudonosan Senninzawa)

  • Spot the pilgrim lodge called Yudonosan Sanrojo for your orientation

  • Explanation of the Dewa Sanzan spiritual path and Mt. Yudono’s significance

  • Clothing change into white ritual garments for the waterfall training

09:00Walk to the Waterfall Site (Ontaki 御滝)

  • Guided walk through the paved road to the entrance to the river for sawagake お沢駆け (river crossing)

  • Pray to the sacred steles on the way

  • Arrival at the secluded waterfall purification site

10:20Waterfall Purification Ritual 

  • Ritual incantations and preparation

  • Individual entry under the waterfall (optional but encouraged)

11:00 – Going to the Yudonosan-jinja shrine 

  • Dry yourself with your priorly prepared towels

  • Climb up the ladders to gather at the Yudonosan-jinja shrine

  • Prayer at the shrine

  • Take the Yudonosan-Hongu Sanpai Shuttle Bus

12:30Arrive at Yudonosan Sanrojo

  • Lunch at Yudonosan-Sanrojo

14:00Chinkongyo Ritual 鎮魂行

  • Your yamabushi priest explains you the purpose of "appeasing your soul down" after completing the training

  • Explanations of the different gestures and incantations

15:00 – End of the experience

  • Changing into personal clothes

  • Closing thoughts and blessings from the guide

 

 What to Bring

  • Swimsuit or underlayer (worn under ritual robe)

  • Towel

  • Extra change of clothes

  • Respectful attitude and open heart

  • This program requires prior reservation and may be adjusted based on weather and water conditions.

  • Not recommended for children or individuals with certain medical conditions.

  • Experienced Yamabushi guides or shrine staff lead all activities to ensure safety and authenticity.
